Keeping our Community Healthy

The health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, members, and the community remain the Y’s number one priority, with activity-specific safety plans and disease prevention measures enhanced until we are all safely through the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have a COVID Safety Plan and Policies in place to ensure we are following the recommendations of the Provincial authorities and any restrictions that have been put in place, and we continue to monitor the situation closely.

Updated January 20, 2022

Fitness

  • Our fitness areas are open and there is no need to register for a drop-in visit.
  • In-person Group Fitness Classes will resume shortly with reduced capacities and we will continue to livestream classes when possible.
  • As always members are asked to wipe down equipment before and after use.
  • In addition to our in-person fitness programs and services, we also offer the following virtual services:

    • YMCA fitness staff will be streaming live fitness classes with the same registration process used to register for fitness classes.
    • We will continue to offer virtual health coaching options free with membership. Book a virtual connection consult online.
    • Free access to Y@Home+ for members, an online platform offering loads of live and on-demand fitness classes, wellness and meditation programs, fitness challenges, family activities, and more.

Proof of Vaccination

  • All members and guests aged 12 and older will need to provide proof of at least two doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine to enter our centres.
  • Those aged 19 and older must also provide their membership card or photo ID. This requirement will be in place until January 31, 2022 and could be extended.
  • Our teams will be checking for these at the front desk and we will require members to bring the necessary documentation every time they visit.
  • Please visit www2.gov.bc.ca/vaccinecard to learn more about proof of vaccination and to obtain your BC Vaccine Card.
  • As a health focused organization, we feel this is a step in the right direction to get us through the pandemic, and to keep our centres and vulnerable populations safe.

Aquatics

  • Proof of vaccination is now required to access the pool area for those aged 12 and older.
  • Pools, waterparks, hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas are open at H2O Adventure + Fitness Center and the Kelowna Family Y.

Swim Lessons

  • Swim lessons will continue as planned.
  • Everyone aged 12 and up must provide proof of vaccination to access our pools; however, those enrolled in swim lessons do not need to show proof of vaccination when participating in lesson programming.
  • Adults that assist their child(ren) in the changerooms, or in the water during lessons, will need to provide proof of vaccination. If this requirement cannot be met, another vaccinated adult can accompany the child(ren) or they may be withdrawn from lessons.

Masks and Physical Distancing

  • Masks are required for ages 5 and up throughout common areas of all YMCA facilities when not engaging in physical activity, programming, or swimming.
  • Masks are recommended, but not required, while exercising.
  • Details and exemptions:
    • Not required while swimming but necessary on the pool deck
    • Children under the age of 5 are exempt
    • Exemptions apply for individuals with diverse abilities and medical conditions
